Final Recap of Arte 360

What an amazing time I have had in this class. I have dreaded taking this class since becoming a Public Health major because of my lack of artistic ability but I could not have been more wrong! I thought we would be drawing everyday or learning art history and the makers of different works but I learned a great deal about fun stuff and the various trips were delightful for a summer session! In order: Dance Lecture, Puppetry & Music were my top 3 favorite classes. The Palmetto Portraits exhibit was exquisite and the play "Hair" has opened my eyes to a whole other form of entertain for friends and myself. Dr. Heid I can not Thank you again for your understanding during my tragedy.

Movie Day

Today was movie day watching The Phantom of the Opera. I have to be completely honest, I loathe opera. Something about all of it gives me the worst headaches! Phantom of the Opera was definitely a great deal different however. Although I won't rush to see it again it was not bad or painful in the least! I loved the music. Opera music has always conjured up my inner musician. Although I do not have one musical bone in my body, upon listening to opera I've always had images of myself reading music as I play the violin. I noticed a few of the opera terms given in class as well and I love pieces notes to real life events.

How About That Hair!?

The class went to see Hair at the Trustus Theatre! & it reminded me of just how much talent we have in Columbia. It also gave me another great thing to do when my friends and I are out of options, going to see a play would be great!
Hair was not what I was expecting in the least! I expected a family play with feel good songs and got men is Speedo's. The content was fabulous however and it was great catching a glimpse of what life was like way before my time. The actors did a phenomenal job putting on the production and I was so impressed by one of my friends from high school and had a role in the play! The nudity right before the intermission threw me off a great deal as did some of the sexual content. As I said Hair was nothing like what I expected but was executed wonderfully. Bless the actors hearts for having to perform with little to no air. I look forward to going back to Trustus for a night out with friends or a date but I don't think I want to experience "Hair" again. :)

Puppetry

I had so much fun learning about puppets especially my favorites Kermit and that Pretty Miss Piggy! I remember waking up every single morning and watching the Muppets. They played a huge part in my childhood! & will always be my fav childhood toon.

Learning about the mechanics of puppetry was very cool to me. I had never taken the time to think about how Big Bird was operated. Todays class reminded me so much of my childhood! 2nd favorite after the Dance lecture!

Marionette Play

I caught the Marionette performance Saturday at the 11 showing with my best friend. Boy were we in for a treat! I thoroughly enjoyed the play but thought some of the lines were a little mature for the target audience. As a child hand puppets always frieghtened me so I welcomed the marionette. Marionette puppets seem to be so much better built.

Butterfly Art and Piano Comp

I was unable to attend the musical venue and make the butterfly art because of a family tragedy. Thank you so much for understanding Dr. Heid!

How Pretty are You! Edventure Butterflies

I told my aunt about going to EdVenture to see butterflies and she said "Oh Amber, you're gonna love it" and honestly I didn't believe her one bit. I saw this as just another class trip. But when I got in the exhibit and began taking the photos I was amazed! I felt like a little girl again and it was embarrassing and hard trying to contain my excitement at these beautiful little things. These pictures are now screensavers on my phone and laptop.
